Japan commemorates 100 years of national parks with new coin series
Following the overwhelming success of the 47 Prefectures coin series (2008-2016), the most popular coin program ever launched by the Japan Mint, the Ministry of Finance of Japan is launching a new commemorative coin series to celebrate the centennial of the National Park System.
This series, which will run from 2024 to 2031, will include designs from 34 National Parks in Japan, with approximately five coins each year. These parks are famous for their breathtaking natural beauty and their vital role in conserving the country's biodiversity. All commemorative silver coins in the series will be minted by the Japan Mint.
For the initial release in 2024, the Ministry of Finance will issue a first series of three 1 oz silver 1,000 yen colored 1,000 yen coins, each with a limited worldwide mintage of 40,000 pieces per design. A maximum of 3,989 pieces per design will be allocated for distribution outside Japan.
